چکیده

bisphenol a, 2,2-bis(4,4-dihyroxyphenyl propane) is the raw material for the production of important synthetic polymers such as epoxyresins, polycarbonates and polysulphones. during the last twenty years the anual production of bisphenol-a has been continuously increasing. a,b,c cqrves shows the consumption pattern of bisphenol-a (19601972) • epoxy resins are used for the production of adhessives, electrical and electronics pieces, reinforced plastics etc. this paper is based on the research work carried out on the bisphenol-a industrial production methods. the work was done in the industrial organic chemistry laboratory, faculty of engineerinq , tehran university. bisphenol-a was produced from the reaction between phenol and acetone at 50-90 °c in the presence of dry hcl gas (condensating agent). mercaptan catalysts with general formulas(hs)n r (c -oh) or cation exchange resins were used in this reaction. a suitable purification method was worked out. the results were satisfactory and a pilot plant scale production is being considered.
